It all started in 1995, thanks to John Baur and Mark Summers, two friends from Oregon. They proclaimed that this day should be dedicated to speaking like a pirate. The idea remained a local quirk until 2002, when Dave Barry, a nationally syndicated columnist, wrote about it. That's when the celebration truly took sail, spreading across the globe like wildfire!
How to Celebrate Like a True Pirate
- Learn Pirate Phrases: Start yer day by learnin' some essential pirate phrases. "Ahoy!" for hello, "Aye!" for yes, and "Shiver me timbers!" for… well, anythin' that surprises ye.
